Vigilance: the Hautes-Alpes and the Alpes de Haute Provence are on yellow alert for rain-flood, snow-ice and avalanches. The Hautes Alpes are also on wind yellow vigilance. Observations: in general, 10 to 20 mm of precipitation was recorded over the last 24 hours, locally giving up to 30 cm of snow in altitude in the mountains. For today, Sunday 31: DISRUPTED, TEMPORARY LUCK DURING THE DAY; STRONG WIND Under an overcast sky with cloudy terrain, precipitation persists, and is sometimes still moderate until mid or late morning. Limit rain snow around 1600/1800 m, locally lower under the highest intensities. 5 to 15 cm of snow can still be added in the mountains this Morning. Temporary calm at midday, under a sky which generally remains cloudy with a few drops or flakes possible. A news very active degradation sets in at the end of the afternoon, with moderate to heavy precipitation, and a rain-snow limit still towards 1600/1800 m. South wind again quite strong to strong in the exposed valleys, and stormy at altitude with 60/100 km/h at 3000 m. Snowdrifts go concern the high snowy passes. Maximum temperatures: 7 to 13 degrees in valleys, 2 to 5 around 2000 m, -1 around 3000 m. 0 degree isotherm: 1700/1900 m at the start of the day, 2000/2300 m in the afternoon. For next night: HEAVY PRECIPITATION The sky remains cloudy, accompanied by precipitation of moderate to heavy intensity, which only fades from the west at the end of the night. Rain-snow limit around 1800/2000 m, locally lower under the highest intensities. Accumulated precipitation is significant, with 30 to 50 mm quite widespread, and up to 40-70 cm of snow in the mountains. South wind still quite strong in the valleys, moving southwest at the end of the night. At altitude, south then southwest 60/80 km/h, locally more than 100 km/h in the first part of the night. Risk of snowdrifts forming on high road passes. Minimum temperatures: 1 to 6 degrees in general in valleys, -5/-2 in the highest valleys and around 2000 m, -9 to 3000 m.
Tomorrow's Forecast (04/20/2024)
For tomorrow Monday 01 during the day and the following night: LESS CHILLY, STILL A FEW SHOWERS The disturbance finishes evacuating towards Italy at the start of the day. Return of clearings from the west behind, but the low clouds are still numerous in the morning. A few scattered light showers may occur throughout the day. In the late afternoon and evening, the sky charge again from the west, and a few more marked showers occur mainly to the west of the Hautes Alpes, then are limited then near Isère and Savoie at night. The rain-snow limit is generally around 1300/1500 m. Precipitation totals are very weak during the day, and we expect only 1 to 3 cm in the evening and night above 1500 m, locally 5/10 cm in the Écrins. Moderate westerly wind in valleys, becoming northwesterly in the evening. West wind 40/60 km/h at 3000 m, locally 60/70 km/h on the border Italian, heading northwest the following night. Maximum temperatures: 8 to 16 degrees in valleys, 2 to 3 around 2000 m, -5 around 3000 m. 0 degree isotherm: 1800/2000 m.
